Hi there.
Since day one Skype has posted vacancies somewhere on our site. And added a little something about the company. For some time we have felt this is not enough and many people who have applied for jobs have felt the same. So welcome to the new Jobs at Skype site!
Our aim in creating this site was to be open. In addition to listing all vacancies we want to give you a realistic overview of what to expect from working at Skype, what are Skypers like and why do we need so many new people anyway. Also, there were some practical considerations like specifying what we mean by very general titles like "project manager" or "software developer", so that it would be easier for you to assess how these vacancies suit you. And finally, we know there are people out there who are quite satisfied with their present career but who'd like to keep an eye open for Skype. Take your time, we're in no rush.
Skype has changed a lot since we launched the first jobs-site and naturally we've updated the company info. We've also asked Skypers to comment life at Skype (actually publishing their own words without too much editing) and even made a short moving picture about life at our offices. Yes, it is a "moving picture" not a "movie" - check out the reason for this peculiar term yourself.
We hope you like the way we have tagged all job specs and that you can browse them by location, area of responsibility or almost any other criteria. Alternatively, you can just punch in "SQL" or any other word you think is relevant for your dream job and see all specs where it is mentioned.
What comes to specs - and that's why you're hopefully here, to read specs, then we've added keywords to all of them for quick browsing. What's also worth mentioning is that quite many specs don't have an "apply before"-date. The thing is, some shoes are pretty difficult to fill and continue any search for as long as possible. Or it may be that we just need several people for the post.
If you're ready to apply there are no forms to fill, an e-mail with your CV attached will do it. We'd just like you to follow some simple guidelines we have posted on the "How to apply" page.
And finally - the jobs blog. This is where to find tips for applying, colorful stories of Skypers, some "behind the scenes" of hiring at Skype and anything else that's relevant.
Go on now, look around. And I hope you'll have a minute later to comment if you found this site useful or not.

Hi Riina,
I think a Blog for jobs is a great idea. It makes the company more approachable. I have recently applied for a Job in California and I am wanting to find out a way to speak to someone in that office to find out more about the position... and obviously tell them/skype why I want to work for you, and why I would be an asset to Skype

Hi cozza13,
actually - we assume you add all good words about yourself to application letter and we will read it. No additional push expected until we ask you to interview or send a test job.
But if you have some additional questions about location or hiring procedure in general - you are welcome to ask.

Hi Riina,
First of all congratulations on a unique idea for a firms job page.
I am considering applying for the position of Account Manager at Skype (I am tired of my customers asking me about it and not being able to talk them out of it!) however I am reluctant to send my CV in "blind". I currently work for a tier 1 provider in the traditional voice/data market and from time to time I recruit new account managers myself. I am therefore aware of the volume to CV's that a firm like yourselves would receive; obvioulsy I would like to stand out from the crowd from day one of the selection process and would appreciate advice about who and when to send the CV in.
Thanks in advance
David

I was a big user of your product to communicate while in school, and I think it’s on the leading edge of technology and going to become a leader in the industry. I was interest in possibly applying for job, and was curious probably along with others on here what other than great pay and stock options that you offer to your employees? Do you get to use skype for free?
Thanks in advance,
Ben Bumgarner

Hi davotrade,
no office in Ecuador I am sorry. We usually start with bunch of voluntaries / beta testers. Because Skype is about good product and spreading a word from user to user - not about big marketing campaigns or offices.

Hi David,
usually my London colleagues check business development positions and I am dealing with software development and systems administration positions. I ask them to write an article about this topic. I can understand your problem. But I think they have to write by themselves because situation is really very different with Tallinn/engineering positions and business development and marketing positions.

Hi Ben,
yes we offer stock options to our employees as well and Skype is free.
But as most of companies we don't speak about salaries in public web.

Hi Riina,
Is there a way to contact your London colleagues, maybe the HR department, to talk with someone personally? I like the idea of a blog, but I would like to discuss with someone from you London office please. I have already sent in an application.
Best regards,
Irshad

Hi Riina
I consider myself as a Skype lover and enthusiastic. I use it on my daily life to talk to my foreign friends and acquaintances. I`m from Brazil and I don`t know exactly how is Skype doing here in my country, I believe there's a wide area to explore here. I would like to know what would be necessary for a position in this great company. I have no big qualification. I`ve just worked at a small local internet supplier in my town in Brazil and I also know dealing with people on sales. Actually pretty soon I will move to London to try something on foreign languages area that I like very much… and I also know Skype do exist on a variety of foreign languages too!!! by the way I speak fluent portuguese and english. I would like to know if there is any kind of job on Skype which I can fit into it and if I can be useful... I would be very willing to learn and learn on and on…

Hi Irshad,
I am sorry - you have to wait until my colleagues contact you. I know it is not pleasant to wait, but reviewing of candidates and sorting out best ones takes time and focus. May be we can invent some magic way to deal with candidates so perfectly as our product can handle communication - please give us time to find our magic "p2p" technology for CV-s.

Hi Fabiano,
thank you for being so passionate. This is already big advantage, but the advice is still same - please check our vacancies and find most suitable for your and apply.
BTW - we do have our people working in Brazil.

To bwillyb,
yes, but this is just a small business development unit - just couple of business development persons to speed up cooperation with our partners in Italy.

Hi Riina,
I have applied skype jobs for many times. All the time, I am rejected due that i am non-EU citizen.
The Skype Estonia HR Team rejected saying that "you have very good background for this work. Unfortunately we need somebody in next months and It might take more than 6 months to get work permit for non-EU citizens in Estonia. And we have several candidates from EU - it is hard to prove to our migration board we are not able to find candidates from EU. I am sorry "
It is like past 2 years that I am interested to work in Skype and I am keep on trying for that.
Will Skype give the chance to work in its EU offices for Non - EU Citizens ?
Thanks and Regards,
Rameshkumar

Hello Riina,
I love skype and its so convenient to use, I use skype all the time than other chat sites to get in touch with my family, relatives and friends back in Singapore. Right now, I am residing in Pine Bluff, AR.
I have two friends from Singapore who love the idea of working abroad, and have asked me whether I know of any companies willing to employ overseas workers?
I am not sure, that is why I am writing in to ask you, has Skype employed anyone from the South East Asia?
I told my friends, Florence and Wenie to check out and apply. They both are also skype members.
Keep up the good work and God Bless you!
Sincerely,
Junie Pogue

Hi Riina,
I run a small recruitment agency called Leapfrog Careers in London. We specialise in the digital sector. Do you know if Skype would consider accepting CV's from an agency for the current vacancies you have in the London Office - for a small fee of course!
If you do, who should we contact?
Many thanks
Simon
