What is Desktop QA? Skype consist of User Interface, library, backend services, telekom services etc… Skype also runs on many platforms (win, mac, linux, PPC, Windows Mobile, embedded Linux) Win, mac and Linux UI are tested in Desktop QA team alogin with all sort of toolbars and plugins we see on our desktop more and more. We run functional blackbox tests to test UI. Also services related tests where UI is one point of verification. We also do sanity check and regression testing, write testplans and develop test cases. More and more we try to automate testing to increase the performance and accuracy in testing.
Your are leading Desktop QA team. Testing mac, linux and windows UI is the main task for the team. Also some toolbars, add-ons and plugins that work on desktop. You will report to Skype QA manager and work together with release manager, project and product managers.
Responsibilities:
- Managing the Desktop QA engineers team, tasking, scheduling and prioritizing work.
- Gathering metrics, reporting and creating visibility about testing performance and publishing it to all stake-holders
- Coordinating integration and crossteam testing and organizing testers into virtual project teams
- Maintaining and improving team members skills, processes, tools and test environment.
- Communicating with development or QA outsource partners
Pre-requisite knowledge, skills and experience:
- Degree in engineering or information technology
- At least 3 years Information Technology and functional mid-level manager experience
- International business experience
- Testing experience, understanding about software release cycle and related components and phases.
- Excellent in communication, tolerant, able to make compromises but only under controlled conditions.
