Skype is looking for a experienced database developer. You're everyday tasks will involve writing stored procedures to implement business logic across our database cluster and writing python scripts for inter-database communication. Knowledge on basic performance tuning and internals of OLTP databases is a must. You should be a quick learner as we in Skype sometimes don't tend to stick on industry-standard solutions.
Responsibilities:
* writing stored procedures to implement business logic across our database cluster
* writing python scripts for inter-database communication
* discovering and isolating product flaws quickly and effectively, bugtracking
Pre-requisite knowledge, skills and experience:
* at least 2 years of experience working as database developer
* experience with linux and scripting (shell, python)
* previous PostgreSQL experience is not required but is a big plus
* Knowledge on basic performance tuning and internals of OLTP databases is a must
* Understanding of distributed, multi-user, client-server systems and databases role in there
Requirements:
* Ability to prioritize multiple and diverse tasks expected
* Good technical, analytical and communication skills
* Very good command of English
* A ‘can-do’ attitude and a serious desire to have an impact on changing the way people communicate
* You don’t tolerate mistakes and errors, you’re pedant in a positive way
* Manage your own time and tasks efficiently so that you meet the deadlines
* Knowledge of database development methodology and processes
* Experience with a defect tracking system (e.g. Bugzilla)
* Excellent trouble-shooting skills
