Life at Skype
Whether you like wearing a tie and working with partners, or you’d rather sell your soul to hardcore research and tinker in our secret labs, we have something for you.
Skype offices are scattered all around the world. Most of our development team and customer support is located in Tallinn, Estonia. Product management, business development, marketing and communications are in London, while finance and legal teams enjoy a more quiet life in Luxembourg. Our audio and video researchers keep Skype spriti alive in Stockholm. Rest of our offices can be found in Prague, San José, São Paulo, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Tartu. Senior management of Skype is a globetrotting bunch (meaning that you'll find them divided between 4 offices) and our headquarters are in Luxembourg.
All in all Skype has a staff of over 500 with over 300 working in our Tallinn office. We strongly encourage our people to see the world so moving from one office (and position) to the other is quite common.
Software development
Do you like to hack and play around with the latest and greatest GUI and networking technologies? Are your dreams in binary code and 32-bit color? Do you know the difference between pointer and char *? We are looking for people who know Delphi, PHP or C++ and have worked on Windows, Linux (Qt), MacOS X or mobile/embedded platforms. We focus on quality and testing has an important role in our software development cycle. That also means we never have enough of good people who's job title says "quality assurance".
Our software development teams work out of Tallinn, Prague and Stockholm office with a few guys in other offices around the world.
Marketing
During the last 5 years Skype has been frequently chosen as one of the most influential consumer brands out there. We don't have the budget of other big players so we have to be clever and flexible in the way we reach new and existing users. In the marketing team, you'll be part of a group who grows and extends it across all the regions that Skype operates in. We do a lot of work independently, but also in cooperation with many retail, hardware and other types of partners — so you'll work with many innovative and fun projects and channels.
Our global marketing team is situated in London with regional teams in their respective offices.
Operations
Nice software on your mobile or computer is just the fancy face of Skype. Under the surface you’ll find a team of hard-working operations people who make sure Skype’s web site, central services and network connections are online, available and stay that way. There are a number of things that require endless hours of tinkering, server testing and maintenance, and managing projects and processes both internally with external partners. If you get excited about things like load balancing, server redundancy and large-scale datacenter operations and can tell RJ11 socket from RJ45 by the smell, then join our operations team.

Customer support
Skype is easy to use, right? Most people in the world would agree. However, glitches do appear and that's when our customer support helps. Maybe you've just migrated from Windows to a Mac or Linux and you cannot figure out how sending SMS works? Or Skype on your new mobile doesn't sync contacts properly? Quick email to our customer support will help you figure out the solution. Customer support is our most international team, with members from all over the world, some quite exotic countries and nationalities included.

Product and project management
The world is full of ideas what else Skype could do. Someone needs to sort through the ideas, separate the great from good and bad, determine the scope, collect and analyze requirements, figure out dependencies, write specs, maintain schedules, prioritize deliverables and make sure that things get done. Never easy, always a challenge, but once things get done and you see your product out and used by tens of millions of users then nothing can beat that feeling.
Most of our product managers are in London and project managers in Tallinn.
